Sorry for the quietness these days. Good things are happening on this side of the ocean… busy and stressful and tiring things, but good things nonetheless.
It’s November 27th… is it too late to write about Thanksgiving and Thankfulness?
I didn’t think so!
It’s hard to believe that another Thanksgiving has come and gone. Can an entire year really have passed already? Thanksgiving this year was spent in a flat with about thirty other American students. If I wasn’t a Goranson, I would say it was the noisiest and biggest Thanksgiving I’ve ever had! Alas, the Goranson’s still win the ‘Most People in a House for the Holiday’ award, hands down. Nevertheless, we were a large group in a nice flat here in St Andrews, with more food than I think I could eat in a year! Oh it was good. And so much. But so good. I tried explaining to Judith, my land lady, all the different kinds of food that we had, but I’m sure I lost her after the first ten items. Ahhhh….
Another Thanksgiving. Another very full stomach. Another ‘I told myself I wouldn’t get seconds, but…’. Another event with good friends. Another reason to be so very thankful for where God has me.
And just for the fun of it, here is a list of several other things for which I am very thankful these days…
birth and pregnancy announcements of friends near and far
a wood/coal fireplace to read by the light of
my (as of September) new living situation
an incredible family
supportive friends that feel like family
financial support for this very expensive pursuit
all of my adult-life experiences to-date
the supervisor to whom I’m assigned
good health
dear friends in Scotland
a church in which I am used
Kim’s safety so far in Afghanistan
great employment here (tutoring in two capacities)
extra parents and grandparents spread around the globe
birds that sing to me at five in the morning
the majestic sunrises and sunsets here
my soon-to-be-new sister-in-law and niece
a God who loves me, provides for me, and sustains me
free international phone calls to land lines!
handwritten letters from friends
More foreign-language learning opportunities ahead (more on this anon!)
and so much more.
God is good. All the time.
All the time. God is Good!
I am grateful for YOU, friend! And also, for Kimie's safety :)
