France au revoir

The month in Paris has now officially come to a close.

Sad day.

My friends and I said ‘goodbye’ to the flat we lovingly named ‘The Death Trap’.

Any idea why?

(Notice the dining room table… it’s a granite slab perfectly balanced upon two porcelain vases.)

On Friday morning of last week I boarded my final train out of Paris and travelled to the Brittany coast. The only agenda for the day was to see Mont Saint Michel, one of the most visited sites in all of France, and then end up in the medieval walled town of St. Malo only 20 miles away.

Mont Saint Michel is an abbey and village situated on an island just off the coast. It is connected to the mainland by a man-made road built high enough so as not to be covered by the rising tide.

I then spent the evening hours exploring St. Malo, the ferry port town that connects France to England. It is a medieval town with towering walls surrounding the ‘old city’ which gives it the feel of a castle or fortress rather than a town. Second to Tallinn, Estonia, it is my second favourite medieval walled town. :) (Not that I’ve seen that many…!)

I believe this is a small monastery just off the coast of St. Malo.

I highly recommend touring the Brittany coast of France. Though I was there for only one day, and primarily saw only two sites, the impression I got was that it is a region worthy of an entire vacation.
