Ole’s Ordeal

Those of you who follow the Cooke City news (granted, there’s not usually much to keep up on) may already be familiar with the story of Ole, but for those of you who haven’t yet heard his tale, I wanted to share it with you here.

On December 31, 2011 there were two avalanche fatalities in Cooke City, one snowmobiler and one skier.  And until two days ago, presumably also the skier’s dog, Ole.  That is, until Ole showed up at the hotel in Cooke at which he had stayed with his owners, four long days after the avalanche.

Here’s the Billings Gazette article with the initial details surrounding Ole’s surprise return.

After reading that, check out this video of a Cooke City local who skied to the location of the fatality in search of clues to Ole’s four days of presumed death.

This is truly an incredible, dare I say, miraculous, story.  A bit of hope for your day.
