It gets rather cold here sometimes. Take, for instance, this morning when at 6:00 a.m. it was -32. Last night the predicted low was -42. I wasn't awake to check the thermometer.
At first light, mind you, not first sunshine, because that didn't happen this morning until 11:03, but at first light, I threw on my jacket, grabbed my keys to the house, since I was freaked out that I'd lock myself out, and grabbed the jar of bubbles I snatched from the Sunday school cupboards downstairs. My cousin told me that if you blow bubbles when it's that cold, they will freeze in the air. Didn't sound likely.
Well... they started to freeze in the air, and those that were frozen enough by the time they hit the table or ledge didn't bother to break. They let me take their pictures, hold them, blow on them, and all around admire them. In fact, it's now over four hours later and this big guy is still out there, basking in the sunshine after it's rather cool morning.
Haley, this is very cool, but you do realize that this happens even in the "warmth" that is MN's cold days! We did this often as a child...it was my "go-to" babysitting trick on cold nights with the kiddos...this and throwing pots of boiling water in to the air (it turns to steam as you toss it up! very cool!)
ReplyDeleteI love your photos of this, though...and they shatter here a little more quickly I think. You have the craziest life there...can't even imagine.
