Since returning from Atlanta 47 days ago, my car has not driven more than 1.5 miles in any given direction at any one time. It takes me either to Cooke City (1.5 miles away) or to Silver Gate (1 mile away). Beyond Cooke City the road is open solely to snowmobile traffic and beyond Cooke City is Yellowstone Park, a landscape largely deserted by all but wildlife.
After church yesterday was my first feeling of needing to "get out" this winter. So, given that the road beyond Cooke City is closed, I chose to take a drive into the Park. It was a gorgeous, but brisk day (5 above). After driving about twenty miles into the Park interior, snapping some pictures along the way, my need to get out had vanished and I thoroughly enjoyed returning home a mere 1.5 hours later. It was a great outing!
Here are some pics for you to enjoy as I did in real time yesterday.

A glorious Yellowstone scene. Also the first sign of pavement after driving nearly 20 miles! |

One of my favorite places in Yellowstone in the winter! |

This is where I fly fished all summer! Huge Cutthroats live in a deep pool in this bend in the Soda Butte Creek. |
